CHARON™-AXP/ES40 for Linux NCE (Non-Commercial, Experimental Use Only)
CHARON-AXP/ES40 for Linux (NCE) is a virtual Alpha ES40 system for X64 Linux made by Stromasys, built for testing and experimental purposes only, to enable prospective users to learn more about the benefits of CHARON Cross-Platform Virtualization. CHARON-AXP/ES40 for Linux NCE supports up to four AXP CPUs, up to 2GB of RAM (automatically set depending on host memory), two emulated SCSI hard drives, a CD-ROM, and a network adapter. For host systems with four cores or less, the virtual Alpha reduces its number of CPUs to the number of host cores, minus one, for stability reasons. This implementation will not work on single-core, hyper-threading, or 32-bit systems. CHARON-AXP/ES40 NCE will run for 30 days before shutting down automatically and requiring a service disrupting restart to begin working again, and is thus for experimental and trial purposes only.
The software was tested on Fedora Core 10, OpenSUSE 11.1, and Ubuntu 8.10. Unlike the commercial versions of CHARON-AXP, the NCE version does not use CPU acceleration technology. Our commercial CHARON-AXP products provide 400+ MIPS on an Intel Core i7 3.2 GHz host, versus approximately 50 MIPS for the CHARON-AXP/ES40 NCE version.
